Something historic happened in Willowdale this past weekend.
I was pleased to sit down with The Honourable Ali Ehsassi and The Honourable Stan Cho to talk about how we align our efforts to support both the pressures of today and the growth of tomorrow in our neighbourhood.
All three of us are part of large systems where we each have to fight for our ward for attention and resources. Working together will provide more opportunities to be strategic and align our efforts to achieve the best outcome for Willowdale.
Our shared focus: ensuring North York Centre grows with the schools, infrastructure, childcare spaces, and community amenities residents actually need.
Our first step? A joint letter stating our commitment to work collaboratively to be presented when the North York Centre Secondary Plan Directions Report is presented to City Council on March 25. The letter will:
Highlight the unprecedented housing growth already delivered
Call for coordinated investment across all orders of government
Raise critical concerns about the infrastructure required to support 100,000 additional residents over the next 25 years
Key areas we discussed include:
Schools, Childcare spaces, Healthcare Capacity & Interim Community Space
Infrastructure & Transportation – 401 interchange improvements and the Environmental Assessment process
Community Centre Funding – Opportunities through the federal Build Community Strong Fund
Mel Lastman Square & Transform Yonge – Advancing bold placemaking to create a true landmark destination for our community
I look forward to building on this momentum. I look forward to continued collaboration to deliver the infrastructure, schools, and community amenities that North York Centre residents deserve, and to re-engaging with both our MP and MPP in the months ahead. I believe this is what people truly want of their government, for leaders to work across party lines and across levels of government to achieve the best results.
