Winter Weather Information

With the winter upon us, here is the information you'll need to navigate snow removal, salting, power outages and assisting people in need.

SNOW REMOVAL

The city has launched PlowTO - a map tool to help us navigate snow removal by tracking real-time locations of plows, sidewalk plows and salt trucks. Check it out: https://www.toronto.ca/plowto

For more information on the city’s snow clearing plans, including snow removal for bike lanes, trails, and submitting a service request, you can visit www.toronto.ca/snow

SIDEWALK CLEARING

As winter weather settles in, a reminder that property owners are responsible for clearing ice and snow from private property – including driveways, parking spaces, steps, ramps and landings – within 24 hours after snowfall ends to provide safe access for people and vehicles. If you see sidewalks that appear unsafe and should be cleared, after 24 hours, you can contact 311 to report a property owner who did not clear their sidewalk or private property.

POWER OUTAGES DURING A WEATHER EVENT

In the unfortunate event that you experience a power outage or spot a downed power line, please contact Toronto Hydro’s emergency line at 416-542-8000.

PEOPLE IN NEED

If you see someone on our city's streets who is in need of assistance, please call 311 or call 911 in the case of an emergency. If you see someone in need of shelter during an extreme cold alert, please call 311 to find the nearest warming centre.
