John Mackenzie Park Extension Ribbon Cutting

I was delighted to join residents, community partners, and local students for the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the extension of John Mackenzie Park. This exciting addition enhances an already valued community space with a beautiful new pollinator garden, welcoming seating areas, and an expansion of the Parkview Neighbourhood Community Garden.
What makes this project especially meaningful is its connection to education. The expanded community garden will support hands-on learning opportunities and educational programs for students at McKee Public School, helping them develop a deeper understanding of gardening, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. I am proud to see this investment create a space where nature, learning, and community can come together, and I look forward to seeing residents of all ages enjoy these new amenities for years to come.
The garden sells its vegetables on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 (or until the produce runs out). They also donate a lot of their vegetables to local charities and food banks.
With this expansion, the garden needs to grow their volunteer team. Please visit their website to learn more about their activities and how you can join them: parkviewneighbourhoodgarden.org
