Last Wednesday, I attended the WCRA Annual General Meeting at the historic John McKenzie House. The AGM was an important opportunity for residents to come together, reflect on the Association's work over the past year, discuss issues affecting the neighbourhood, and elect members of the Board of Directors who will help guide the Association’s work moving forward. They also served chocolate-dipped strawberries, which were a lovely treat!
Thank you to Stephen Boyle and the WCRA Executive team for organizing such a well-attended meeting, and to the many residents who took the time to participate. As with any organization, I am especially grateful to the members who put themselves forward for election to the board. Your leadership and commitment are so important to building a stronger community. It was also a great opportunity to provide an update on the status of the North York Centre Secondary Plan and answer questions from residents. This is a community that is engaged, thoughtful, and well-informed thanks to the strength of its leadership team.
The meeting also served as one of our Participatory Budgeting idea collection events for Willowdale East. Residents contributed thoughtful and creative ideas to improve local parks and public spaces. Those suggestions will help shape the upcoming Participatory Budgeting ballot as the community decides how to invest $500,000 in new neighbourhood amenities.
Thank you to the WCRA for its continued leadership and advocacy on behalf of our community. Strong neighbourhood associations and engaged residents are essential to building a vibrant, connected, and thriving Willowdale.
