Temporary Road Closure: Intersection of Tamworth Rd and Churchill Ave

Start Date: September 25, 2023

End Date: September 29, 2023

*Timeline is subject to change

The City of Toronto is modifying and upgrading the storm and sanitary sewer system in your area in order to reduce surface and basement flooding. This work also involves replacing the city-owned portion of substandard water services and sanitary sewer laterals. Due to the depth and nature of the sanitary sewer construction work on Tamworth Road, and to avoid any safety concerns for the residents in the neighbourhood, the intersection of Tamworth Road and Churchill Avenue will be closed, effective 7 a.m. on September 25, 2023. We apologize for any inconvenience that this second closure will cause to the neighbourhood, and we thank you for your continued patience as we complete the work.

This project is part of the Council-approved 2022 Basement Flooding Protection Program to improve the water distribution system; renew our aging infrastructure and reduce the risk of sewer collapse or blockages that cause sewer backups and flooding.

WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE CONSTRUCTION

Work Hours: Work will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Traffic Management:

  • Road users should expect delays and increased traffic on nearby main and side streets. Motorists are reminded that bicycles and cars will be sharing the lane. When driving, please be mindful of vulnerable road users. Efforts have been made to manage traffic in the area for the safety of workers, road users and residents.

  • Tamworth Road will be closed on the east side to southbound traffic between houses numbered 90 to 94. Churchill Avenue will be fully closed between houses numbered 80 to 84, with the intersection at Churchill Road closed to traffic turning east from Tamworth Road. Access to homes will not be affected.

Pedestrians: The work may require temporary sidewalk restrictions, however any necessary sidewalk closures will alternate in each direction to ensure pedestrian access is maintained during construction.
