Steeles Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation Update

Many residents have reached out asking why the Steeles Avenue Bridge rehabilitation over the Don River appears to have little visible construction activity. I wanted to share an update on what's happening behind the scenes.
During the early stages of construction, crews discovered previously unidentified telecommunications cables beneath the bridge. Before rehabilitation work can safely continue, these utility lines must be relocated in coordination with the utility companies, a process that requires additional engineering and design work.
Here's what you need to know:
Bridge rehabilitation work is temporarily paused while the utility relocation is completed.
This work is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and protect critical infrastructure.
Once the utilities have been relocated, construction on the bridge will resume.
The project's anticipated completion date has been extended to February 2027.
I know this has been frustrating for residents who have seen the construction zone with little visible progress. Thank you for your patience and understanding as this important infrastructure project moves forward. I will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
