As you may have heard in the news, the chief of Toronto Police Service and York Regional Police announced the results of Project South, a major criminal investigation that has led to the arrest of seven Toronto Police Service officers and one retired officer, facing serious criminal allegations.
In response, the Toronto Police Service Board has underscored that public trust in policing is fundamental and that allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously. Click Here to read a Statement from the Toronto Police Service Board.
The Board and Chief Myron Demkiw have formally requested an independent inspection by the Inspector General of Policing to assess oversight, recruitment and vetting, access to police databases, evidence management, and fitness for duty. While the investigation proceeds, as a Board member, I remain committed to accountability, transparency, and public safety, while recognizing the daily professionalism of the 8000+ TPS members who serve Toronto.
