Mayor Chow’s 2026 Budget Released

The Mayor’s budget outlines how much the City plans to spend and how it plans to pay for those costs, including revenues from property taxes and user fees. City Council may propose amendments to the Mayor’s budget, but Council does not vote to formally adopt the budget or a “budget as amended.” Any changes to spending or revenues, including property taxes, must be proposed as amendments to the Mayor’s budget item. By law, the City must have a balanced budget. This means any amendment that increases spending or reduces revenues must include an offset, such as cutting another expense or increasing a different revenue source. 


If Council does not pass any amendments to the Mayor's budget on Feb 10th, the budget will be "deemed adopted" at the conclusion of the meeting.
