February marks Black History Month, a time to honour the enduring contributions of Black communities to Toronto, to Canada, and to our shared human story.
Black history is deeply woven into the fabric of our city through culture, creativity, leadership, and the ongoing work toward justice and equality. This month is not only about celebration, but also about listening, learning, and recommitting to building a city rooted in fairness, opportunity, and belonging.
The City of Toronto supports and celebrates Black communities through initiatives such as the Toronto Action Plan to Confront Anti-Black Racism, investments in Black-led community organizations and youth programs, support for Black entrepreneurship, arts, and cultural expression, City-wide events, exhibits, and educational programming during Black History Month and throughout the year.
I encourage residents to engage with Black voices, support Black-owned businesses and organizations, and take part in conversations that strengthen understanding and community, not just this month, but year-round.
