Metrolinx has shared several new construction notices related to early works for the Yonge North Subway Extension project near Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue. Residents and businesses in the area may notice upcoming activity, including:
Installation of underground monitoring equipment at multiple locations along the corridor, including (1) Steeles Avenue & Yonge Street, and (2) Connaught Avenue, west of Yonge
Installation of underground monitoring equipmenton Connaught Avenue, west of Yonge Street
92 Tree removals along Yonge Street, Steeles Avenue East, and Nipigon Avenue due to changing traffic and construction conditions. Metrolinx has committed to replacing these trees where possible, but it could be some time before this happens.
Demolition of a commercial plaza at the southeast corner of Yonge & Steeles
Installation of underground monitoring equipment on Hendon Avenue at Duplex Avenue
Metrolinx has advised that teams are canvassing nearby properties and providing notices to the community. Traffic rerouting and mitigation measures are being reviewed, with attention to impacts on Centrepoint Mall tenants, nearby businesses and residents. Plans also include pest control mitigation where required. You can find all the related notices by Metrolinx about this project by clicking here.
Our office will continue to raise questions around business access, traffic impacts, and alignment with the future public realm design along Yonge Street. Updates and notices will continue to be shared as they become available.
