Last Friday, I had a productive and collaborative in-person meeting with Minister Stan Cho, MPP for Willowdale, focused on some of the most important opportunities and challenges facing Willowdale and North York Centre. I am grateful for Minister Cho’s willingness to engage on a wide range of issues that will help shape the future of our community and improve quality of life for Willowdale residents.
Our discussion covered 10 key priorities:
A visionary refresh of Mel Lastman Square to create a world-class destination for arts, culture, tourism, and community celebration.
Urgent provincial childcare infrastructure funding to help deliver much-needed daycare spaces for growing families.
Connecting with the Minister of Education regarding the School Climate Survey and strengthening supports that help address adverse childhood experiences.
Advancing a bold vision for future subway stations, including platform edge doors, public washrooms, bike facilities, community spaces, and transit-oriented development.
Addressing visitor parking challenges in rapidly intensifying neighbourhoods near transit.
Exploring tools to preserve office and employment spaces in North York Centre and maintain our role as a major economic hub.
Discussing the importance of timely progress on the Yonge/401 Interchange project and continued coordination with the Ministry of Transportation.
Seeking solutions to optimize the future Doris Avenue Extension through improved road alignment planning.
Addressing concerns regarding noise pollution from a residential CHP cogeneration system and its impacts on nearby residents.
Exploring provincial authorization for a noise camera enforcement pilot and stronger measures to reduce excessive vehicle noise.
Strong communities are built through partnership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to solving problems. I look forward to continuing to work with Minister Cho and our provincial partners to advance these priorities and deliver results for Willowdale residents.
