Celebrating 100 Years of the North York Garden Club

I joined City staff and members of the North York Garden Club for a site visit at Mel Lastman Square last week to select the location of a commemorative plaque marking the Club’s 100th anniversary.

For a century (!!!), the North York Garden Club has brought people together through a shared love of gardening, environmental stewardship, and community building. Their contributions have helped shape beautiful, welcoming green spaces across our community, and their dedication continues to inspire residents of all ages.

During our visit, we carefully considered potential locations within the Square to ensure the plaque will be both visible and accessible, allowing visitors to learn about and celebrate this remarkable milestone for years to come. It was wonderful to collaborate with the Club and City staff to find a fitting place that reflects the significance of their legacy.

Mel Lastman Square is truly at the heart of Willowdale, and it feels especially meaningful to recognize the Garden Club’s 100 years in such a central community space.

The official plaque unveiling will take place on June 22 at 12:00 PM at Mel Lastman Square. I hope you can join us as we celebrate this incredible milestone together.
