Canada Day Celebrations in Willowdale

Welcome to July!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Canada Day and enjoyed celebrating with family, friends, and neighbours. It was great to see thousands of you at Mel Lastman Square for another incredible Canada Day celebration hosted by the Yonge North York BIA. A big thank you to Laura Burnham, Domenic Imbesi, and the entire YNYBIA team for all of their hard work in making the day such a success, especially in the sweltering heat.

I was joined by Mayor Chow, MPP Stan Co, and MP Ali Ehassi to kick off the fireworks show (see picture below!). Canada Day is a wonderful opportunity for representatives from all levels of government to come together and celebrate our country and community. By 10pm, Mel Lastman Square was filled with people from the stage all the way to the back of Yonge St to watch the fireworks. Click here to watch my recap reel! As a K-Pop Demon Hunter fan, I was excited to hear the song Golden that matched the fireworks perfectly!

I also want to thank the West Lansing Homeowners Association for the remarkable turnout at their annual Canada Day BBQ! It was a fun afternoon with the Ora Ross Band (aka West Lansing Band 2.0), and many kids enjoyed games provided by Sunnyside Camp. I wish everyone could experience the strong community spirit fostered by this association, which is why I strongly encourage everyone to join or start a neighbourhood association!

We also joined Canadians from across the country in singing the national anthem at 1pm EST for an initiative called All Together Canada (www.alltogethercanada.ca). I loved looking across Gwendolen Park and seeing everyone sing with pride!
