About the event

Don't miss your FINAL CHANCE TO SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS in person! Take part in direct democracy and make a meaningful impact on the future of Willowdale! Come meet me and share your thoughts - How Would You Spend $500K to Improve Newtonbrook West? What does your neighbourhood need the most? Your ideas can turn into reality!

Join us at theWillowdale Participatory Budgeting IDEA COLLECTION event and pitch your ideas for making our community even better using $500 K in funds from section 37 and 42.

At this event, we’ll be gathering ideas from Willowdale residents for capital improvements in Newtonbrook West. In addition, we’ll be presenting the many great ideas we’ve collected over the summer through various channels, such as pop-ups at TTC stations, parks, farmers' market, community centres, and community events across Willowdale. We will also share the ideas collected online through our community engagement portal- Willowdaleactionhub.ca

We’ll then shortlist the most popular ideas and identify 'Project Champions' —community members who will work alongside our team to bring these ideas to life.A key responsibility of a Project Champion is to rally community support for their idea, ensuring it gains enough traction to make it onto the initial shortlist.

Each shortlisted idea will undergo a feasibility and cost analysis by City staff. Once the final list of ideas is determined, Newtonbrook West residents will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite project. Voting will take place in-person within Newtonbrook West, with multiple voting days scheduled to ensure maximum participation. The winning idea will be presented to the City Council for approval and implementation!

The funding source for the participatory budget (PB) process is either Section 37 or 42. PB projects are to be service improvement and/or new amenity and not state-of-good repair. Only capital projects can be funded including, but not limited to:

a. Park improvements (Outdoor fitness equipment, lighting etc.)

b. Playgrounds (Ping-Pong tables, Chess tables etc.)

c. Street furniture (Benches, Seating Stones, Shade Structures etc.)

d. Tree Planters

e. Pollinator gardens

f. Sports facilities

g. Dog Off-leash Areas
